Housing Louisville’s Workforce: Connecting Community With Economic Opportunity
On December 9th 2026, the Metropolitan Housing Coalition released our 22nd Annual State of Metropolitan Housing Report (SMHR). The SMHR is an annual, investigative report on rising inequities and challenges affecting our community’s access to fair, accessible, and affordable housing. Each report addresses address critical housing issues in our community using reliable data that is then used and shared by MHC to advocate and educate our community and local legislation to drive the creation, funding, and policy change needed for advancing affordable housing opportunities.

This report is also used by local nonprofits and government agencies in serving LMI households and individuals. By driving meaningful conversations in our Louisville community, we work towards alleviating cost burdens associated with housing and improve the overall well-being of underserved communities. MHC will continue to collect data and advocate on behalf of low-income households to prioritize stable and affordable housing for marginalized groups.
This year’s report, entitled Housing Louisville’s Workforce: Connecting Community With Economic Opportunity, was developed in partnership with the Northern Kentucky University Center for Economic Analysis & Development (CEAD). This year’s report explores how housing challenges are rooted in long-term structural imbalances between where people live, work, and can afford to live, revealing key data and insights that connect our economy to the availability and affordability of housing within Louisville.
